King’s School Infant & Junior Division enjoyed a nature-focused day of learn- ing as the national treasure celebrated his 100th birthday. Across every class, chil- dren embraced the opportu- nity to learn more about one of the world’s most remark- able figures, whose lifelong dedication to nature, con- servation, and education has inspired generations. Rachel Cookson, principal of King’s Infant & Junior Division, said: “Sir David’s passion for the planet and our responsibility in it reso- nates so powerfully with our Enquiry Curriculum leaning and its cultural messaging. “This day reminds us that our children here at King’s are not only eager learners, but they are also growing up to be thoughtful young citizens. “They are starting to care deeply about the world around them, and with this comes the importance of tak- ing responsibility.” Throughout the day, chil- dren took part in a wide range of activities, from creating art- work inspired by the natural world to researching Sir David Attenborough’s life and career. Each class tuned in for a special live assembly on Sir David, with many chil- dren also making thoughtful pledges for the future. Year one explored composting and recycling, baked banana muf- fins using old bananas, and enjoyed a walk around the school grounds collecting natu- ral treasures, which were used to decorate and create crowns. Reception danced along to the ‘Birthday Boogie’ to mark the special occasion and spent time creating thoughtful birthday cards and bird feed- ers to be hung in the school’s Sustainability Garden. Meanwhile, year six exam- ined specimens in the science lab and demonstrated their observation and artistic skills with their botanical artwork. THE Ryleys School in Alderley Edge has a new leader. From my first visit to the school, I was struck by the genuine warmth of the community and the strong foundations that are already in place here. I look forward to working alongside staff, pupils, and families, determined to build on the outstanding all-round educa- tion The Ryleys School offers.” The Governors would also like to extend their sincere thanks to Mrs Julia Langford for her exceptional leadership as Headteacher.
