Academy student is on the write track

A STOCKPORT Academy student has penned his way into the final stages of a national story-writing contest.
Year 7 pupil Ewan Harkness entered his short story ‘War’ into the BBC’s 500 Words Competition and has been shortlisted into the top 5,000 – beating over 125,000 other stories in the process.
The challenge, which is open across the country to young people aged between 10-13 years old, sets them the task of writing a story that contains no more than 500 words.
Ewan’s entry tells the story of a dramatic battle, but with a big twist at the end that leaves readers – and clearly the competition’s judges – reeling.
Ewan said: “If I was to give one bit of advice to other young authors it would be that the opening really needs to grab the reader’s attention. That’s what I’ve always tried to do and I’m really proud to have done so well against so many other writers.”
