STOCKPORT’S Redrock leisure destination has celebrated its second anniversary after another successful year of trading.

Home to The Light Cinema, Zizzi, Pizza Express, The Gym, Berretto Lounge and Mangobean, the popular leisure complex has welcomed over a million visitors to The Light Cinema over the last two years.

And it firmly established itself as one of the region’s must-visit leisure destinations since it opened in 2017.

Over the last 12 months Italian eatery, Zizzi, has served 41,000 diners, while Mangobean has sold over 12,000 coffees and now plans to expand its menu, offering pizzas, burgers and a range of desserts.

The Light has now seen over a million visitors and opened an additional two screens at Redrock during 2019 to meet growing demand from customers.

The Gym Stockport has welcomed over 260,000 visitors in the last year and has recently invested in a refurbishment.

Caroline Simpson, corporate director for place at Stockport Council, said: “Redrock was a big hit from the start and it’s proved to be hugely popular, establishing itself as one of the region’s most popular leisure destinations.

“To have reached a milestone of over one million visitors in just two years is fantastic.

She added: “The town centre is undergoing an exciting transformation and this goes much further than Redrock.

“Visitors can now enjoy a vibrant Market Place, investment in Underbanks and an influx of new bars, restaurants and independent shops.

“Work will also start soon to transform Merseyway into a modern, shopping centre with world class facilities.”

Tom Dean, business Manager at The Light, said: “The people of Stockport have welcomed us with open arms since opening in 2017. We've now had over one million guests join us for everything from the latest blockbusters to opera, theatre and concerts.

"We’ve been that busy that we've just added two additional screens and now offer freshly made pizzas, burgers and sliders. We’ve got plenty more exciting additions up our sleeve.”

Redrock forms part of the vouncil’s ambitious £1bn regeneration programme. This includes a new transport interchange, and Town Centre West - an urban village with up to 3,500 new homes and up to 1,000,000 sq.ft of employment floorspace.
