Residents in Stockport will be able to access council services around the clock thanks to the introduction of a chatbot on Stockport Council’s website.

The Council has designed their website to be as easy as possible to use but now there’s a new way to get help to find the information, advice and services you need. The Council has introduced Ami, a state-of-the-art conversational web chat service, which uses both artificial intelligence technology (AI) and live advisors to help residents, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you need help to find information on the Council’s website, ask your question and Ami will take you to the relevant web-page. You can find Ami in the pink circle on the bottom right of your screen on any smartphone, tablet or computer. If your query is more complex and you need to speak to someone, Ami will pass you onto an advisor during office hours or take your contact details so we can get back to you

Councillor Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement says: “The Council is designing its services for a digital age through the eyes of its residents. Our residents are used to good online experiences elsewhere in their busy lives and it’s our responsibility to ensure that we are using the latest technology to meet these expectations. Going online is the easiest way to access many council services and now with the introduction of Ami it makes it even quicker to resolve any queries they may have.”

To get the best from Ami, state your request clearly, just as you would to a human and mention the service you are asking about, such as bins, council tax, benefits, parking, schools or libraries. If Ami asks you to reword your question, please be patient as she’s trying to find the correct information.

Next time you need information or advice on a council service, make www.stockport.gov.uk your first choice and give Ami a try.
