A STOCKPORT home care company has launched its annual Christmas appeal and is urging businesses in the borough to get involved.

Home Instead Stockport and Tameside's 'Be a Santa to a Senior' gift-giving campaign aims to make a real difference to older people over the festive season.

The company, which provides home care services to ageing adults throughout the area, have also linked up with Nevill Road Junior School in Bramhall.

Its pupils will be creating cards and letters to send to older people throughout the community this Christmas who may not otherwise receive a gift.

The company wants other groups to get involved too, not just by giving gifts, but by also identifying older or vulnerable people who would benefit from receiving a gift this Christmas.

In past years many schools, youth organisations, community groups and charities have got involved with the campaign by donating gifts, both bought or made.

David Moore, owner of Home Instead Stockport, said: "We are delighted to be running our 'Be a Santa to a Senior' campaign again this year.

"It always has an amazing turnout, with numerous local organisations, businesses, schools and individuals getting involved to really give back to the elderly throughout our local community.

"The pandemic and the lockdown periods have been really hard for older people-increasing instances of isolation and loneliness as many were separated from friends and family for months at a time, and many who depend on support groups did not have access to these at all.

"At the end of another difficult year, it is a really simple way to give back- but one that can make such a difference, which is why we are calling upon the local community to get involved in whatever way they can."

The company is looking for simple, small gifts which would be appreciated by older people, including socks, gloves, hats, chocolate, biscuits, toiletries, puzzles, games, jigsaws, etc.

The team at Home Instead will distribute these gifts to their own older clients, care home residents across the town, and people identified through the campaign.
