THE outstanding contributions made to the health and care of people across Stockport during the Covid-19 pandemic have been officially recognised.

The borough's health and care heroes were honoured at the inaugural Stockport Health and Care Awards.

The winners, both teams and individuals, were presented with their awards at Stockport Town Hall at a restricted capacity event hosted by comedian Jason Manford, pictured.

Those in attendance heard about the tremendous work of the shortlisted and nominated candidates, who went above and beyond during the pandemic. More than 300 nominations were received across the 10 categories.

Dr Cath Munro, who chairs Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said: "It's wonderful to be able to publicly acknowledge how hard people have worked under such difficult circumstances.

"Many of those who live or work in Stockport should be proud of their contribution to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic. I am delighted that some of these dedicated teams and individuals are being recognised."

Karen James, chief executive for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, said: "These awards have been a great celebration. It has been very touching to see people in Stockport show their appreciation for those working in local health and care by nominating them for these awards.

"The last two years have been an immense challenge for us all, and know those working in our services will be honoured to be recognised for their efforts in this way.
