What are you doing over the Jubilee weekend?  Have you heard about Stockport’s Secret Street Party on 4th June, a must-visit celebration?

Hosted on the Underbanks, Stockport’s Secret Party will feature live music from The Tall Faces Band as well as local duo Blank Cheque, and DJ sets from DJ Clint Boon and SK1 Records. The music will range from the 1950s, when the Coronation of Her Majesty the Queen took place, to the present day.

There will be lots of activities for families including a jewellery making workshop to celebrate the history of Winters Jewellers, an opportunity to paint a family portrait to celebrate local history through family, and a comic book workshop with a local comic book artist.

In traditional street party fashion, there will be long benches to sit at decked with tablecloths and multicoloured bunting.  You’ll also be able to get creative and make your own bunting to take to the party at Stockport Museum on Saturday 4th June.

Guests at the Party will be encouraged to purchase takeaway food and drink from local businesses and outdoor bars.

There will be more live, family-focused entertainment in Stockport Market  where you’ll also be able to browse the market stalls and indulge in your pick of food and drink.

Peter Ashworth, Head of Culture and Leisure at Stockport Council, commented: “This is set to be a fantastic party to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in our characterful Markets and Underbanks areas –We are excited to celebrate our history and future with a party in the centre of our fantastic town. There’s free parking in all council-owned car parks and on-street parking throughout the weekend, so pop down and join in the fun!”

Stockport’s Secret Party on The Underbanks is just one of the many events going on around the borough.

Taking place in Stockport Museum during its regular museum opening hours is ‘The Queen’s Hat Trail’, based on the popular book series by Steve Anthony, winner of the Evening Standard's Oscar's First Book Prize.

Follow the Queen’s hat and locate the drawings from the book hidden around the museum. You can also read the story in our family gallery. The hunt for the Queen’s hat begins on Tuesday 31st May and ends on Sunday 12th June. Please note the museum will be closed for Bank Holidays on 2nd and 3rd June.

From beacon lighting to a variety of special activities in Stockport libraries, there’s plenty to look forward to across the Bank Holiday weekend. For more information, visit the Stockport Council website.
