STOCKPORT-based cheerleading programme Rising Stars are on their way to the World Cheerleading Championships after winning bids worth £10,000 at the British Cheerleading Association’s Super Classic competition.
Two of the programme’s elite squads – Rising Stars Ellipse and Rising Stars Midnight – wowed the international panel of judges with their complex routines to earn themselves a place at the 2018 USASF World Cheerleading Championships which will take place in Orlando, Florida, next April.
Not only that, they will receive a grant worth £10,000 from the British Cheerleading Association to help them get there.
Competing against some of the best teams in the country, the All-Girl Rising Star Ellipse team secured the gold Worlds bid (worth £6,000) and the Co-ed Rising Stars Midnight team took silver (worth £4,000).
British Cheerleading Association Director, Travis Prior, said: “When I saw that they had zero point deductions on their scoresheets I was impressed. When you are competing at that level and you don’t make any mistakes it shows that you have been training incredibly hard.
"Rising Stars have marked themselves as one of the top cheerleading programmes in the country. We can't wait to follow them on their journey to Worlds and watch them compete in Florida next year."
Rising Stars coach, Becky Chadburn, says: "It was such an amazing feeling to get the partial paid bid for one team, never mind both teams.
"We have been working hard since coming back from the 2017 World Championships earlier this year, focussing on increasing the difficulty level of our routines.
"Our next task is to put our teams together for next season and train over the summer ready for our choreography weekend in September which will be with top American coaches from the Stingray Allstars."
