STOCKPORT Academy’s Year 11 Art students spent the day with a professional artist, helping put them in the frame to get the best results.

Greater Manchester-based Ian Murphy, who has 30 years of experience in making a living as an artist, met the group to explain the method behind his mixed media techniques. The students then applied this to their own work, forming part of a project based around architecture.

Now the aspiring artists plan to put their newly acquired skills to good use, in support of their GCSE coursework.

Janine McCann, Stockport Academy Principal, said: “This was a great opportunity for our students and they were clearly inspired by today’s workshop. The group was really engaged with everything Ian had to show them, while building confidence in their own ability. We would like to thank him for sharing his experience with these young people, who have a real passion for Art.”
