FUNDRAISING really kicked off when Alderley Edge Hotel Bar and Restaurant hosted The Local Gardens Charity Ball in aid of Stockport County Sport and Education Community Foundation.

Working alongside the organiser of the event, Blake Slater from Local Gardens, the dinner raised £4,100. This will be partially matched by £2,000 from the event supporter Barclays Bank.

The dinner was attended by more than120 guests including The Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Laura Booth, and Stockport County FC legends Liam Dickinson and Alan Ogley.

The event proceeds are being donated to Stockport County Sports and Education Community Foundation, which takes the football club off the pitch and into the local community; engaging children and adults of all abilities in structured, safe, fun and developmental activities.

Alderley Edge Hotel Bar and Restaurant was event sponsor and host. Its general manager John Scott said: “The dinner was a huge success for all involved, but most importantly for the charity it has supported.

“Football is a superb way to engage, motivate and support people in our community and I am delighted we have been a part of their work.”

He added: “One lucky guest is also about to receive a call from our executive head chef, Colin Starkey to arrange a very special dinner. He offered himself as a personal chef during the auction. Someone is in for a gourmet treat!”

Organiser Blake Slater said: “I have seen the amazing work that the Stockport County Sports and Education Community Foundation has undertaken.

“It has touched many lives, including my own, given purpose and focus to many, and importantly, it has done so through fun and sport.’

Jim Gannon, manager of Stockport County, added: ‘The foundation is an integral part of the Club. It takes football off the pitch at Edgeley Park, and into the community.

“I am delighted that we could support the dinner and know that the money raised will help us to continue this valuable community work.”
