A FACELIFT for Woodford and Bramhall Royal British Legion is underway thanks to support from Redrow.
Based at Moor Lane, close to Redrow's flagship Woodford Garden Village scheme, the Legion successfully applied for a grant from a community fund set up by the homebuilder.
Secretary of the Woodford and Bramhall Royal British Legion, Les Clitheroe, explained: "We do a lot of work with veterans of the Second World War and later conflicts, including the organisation of the Remembrance Services every year in Bramhall and Woodford, which are attended by hundreds of people.
"Some of our members used to work at Woodford Aerodrome, on the site where Redrow is now building new homes, so when we heard they were looking for local projects to support we applied for funding. Redrow generously gave us £2,000, which we're using towards the cost of maintenance and refurbishment works at the club so that we can continue our activities."
The old aerodrome site where Redrow is creating a 205-hectare new neighbourhood had a long history of aircraft manufacturing by Avro, including production of many British aviation wonders like the Lancaster Bomber, Vulcan Bomber and Nimrod. The Avro Heritage Museum, an important visitor attraction, now sits within the development.
Redrow's Woodford Garden village will eventually feature more than 900 new homes and a host of bran-new amenities, including a school, sports facilities, a dedicated health centre, its own ships and 19 area of play, parks or public open space.
Redrow's voluntary Woodford Garden Village Community Fund has so far gifted more than £15,000 to local projects.
