Vernon Building Society donates to Stockport foodbanks

The Vernon Building Society implemented a reverse advent calendar in December, where instead of taking daily treats from an advent calendar, staff donated non-perishable food or toiletries over a period of five weeks.

They selected Chelwood and Stockport foodbanks as the recipients, both dedicated to serving the Stockport community.

Operating out of several different foodbank outlets they provide support to those referred through agencies who are in desperate need of help.

The winter months are well known to be the most difficult for many people, however in comparison to the festive period of December where donations are more likely, January suffers.

At the request of Chelwood Foodbank, the Vernon donated all of their collected supplies in January to support those who continue to struggle during this harsh season.

The Vernon encouraged the local community to join in with the donations from staff, collecting additional supplies in their local branches.

Marketing Manager Alex Deakin said: "It was rewarding to deliver the supplies we collected to Stockport’s Foodbanks.

"It was very clear that the donations are in high demand and support from local businesses as well as the community is essential in order for the food banks to continue providing supplies to local people.”

Donations of non-perishable food and toiletries are required all year round. Visit Chelwood Foodbank and Stockport Foodbank online at www.chelwoodfoodbankplus.org/locations and https://stockport.foodbank.org.uk/locations to find out where you can donate.
