Let's spring into action

PEOPLE across Stockport are being urged to back a campaign to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local communities this month.

The campaign is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and full details can be found online at the Great British Spring Clean.

Last year's Spring Clean launched the ‘We Love Stockport - Be Proud of Where You Live’ campaign.

It was hailed a big success with community litter picks cleaning up parks, the banks of the Mersey, district centres and other much-loved public spaces all over the borough.

The litter was then picked up from various locations around the borough by Totally Local Company, the council's street-cleansing contractor.

The local authority is now calling on people to get behind this year’s big push. It is also looking for businesses and schools to get involved.

A council spokesman said: “We are keen to work with any residents and local communities who want to keep their corner of the borough free from litter.
“A number of litter picks have already been organised as part of the Great British Spring clean and the council is also providing support to residents, local community groups and businesses who wish to get involved in, or organise, their own litter picks.”

Interested groups and volunteers are being asked to email the council at district.standards@stockport.gov.uk
