Over 100 business representatives from across Stockport came together at LSH Auto on Wednesday to attend the Stockport Business Summit.

This year's summit, Chaired by Steve Oliver, CEO of musicMagpie and held in partnership with Stockport Council and Stockport Economic Alliance, focussed on how the business community can future proof their business and the way in which digital technology is transforming the economy. The event looked at how businesses can, and should, prepare for the next wave of the digital revolution, and the impact this will have on the way we do business in the future.

Attendees heard about the measures Stockport and Greater Manchester are taking to improve digital infrastructure, and the way in which Stockport is driving forward change. It also considered how digital technology is changing the workplace and how digital technology can help businesses become more competitive. Keynote speaker, Applied Futurist, Tom Cheesewright discussed how tech should focus on taking the friction out of how we work and live and the importance of being aware of transformation in your chosen business sector.

The discussion panel included Leader of Stockport Council, Cllr Elise Wilson, Lou Cordwell OBE, CEO at Magnetic North and Matt Fawthrop, Business Advisor at the Business Growth Hub, looking at current issues faced by businesses today such as the impact of 5G on the way we do business, investing in tech ahead of others and the benefits of harnessing an innovative culture.

Cllr David Meller, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economy at Stockport Council, said: "The Business Summit was a fantastic opportunity for the business community to hear from industry leaders on a range of topical subjects.
"Stockport is one of the North West's leading and most successful business locations, offering an exceptional and well-educated workforce and first class connectivity. It's great that so many of our businesses supported the event and shared their experiences and knowledge."
