THE team behind Stockport MDC - Stockport's Mayoral Development Corporation’s plans to build 3,500 new homes in the town centre - have announced a series of drop-in sessions.

The informal sessions are designed to help people and businesses to find out more about the MDC's plans to re-develop Stockport Town Centre West and create the region's 'newest, coolest and greenest' urban community neighbourhood.

Stockport's Mayoral Development Corporation has been established to help combat challenges faced by the town's retailer sector, to create new working spaces and to promote Town Centre living as a sustainable option for new and existing residents.

Stockport MDC aims to deliver, new homes, offices and leisure amenities on brownfield land alongside existing commercial buildings and residential developments - all contributing towards achieving a "cleaner, healthier environment, promoting well-being and creating new, vibrant town centre communities."

Paul Richards, chief executive of Stockport MDC and director of development and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "These are exciting times for Stockport and we have ambitious but wholly realistic plans for its future sustainability.

"We want to ensure that our plans are transparent and that we work together with residents and occupiers.

"We will be hosting a series of drop-in events where our plans will be laid out for anyone to look at and provide feedback."

The first drop-in session took place this month at Stockport MDC in Grand Central.

It comes as a series of initiatives move forward in Stockport town centre's regeneration plans.

The first phase of a project to improve the road running through the heart of Stockport's well-loved 'Old Town' is underway.

The redevelopment of Adlington Walk at Stockport's Merseyway is also getting underway - marking the first phase of upgrades to the shopping centre.

And it has been announced that regeneration expert WSP has been appointed to help deliver the Stockport Town Centre infrastructure programme.
