In every corner of Stockport, there are people delivering support during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some are organisations that are instantly recognisable, others are very new, but all are united in helping their communities during this crisis.

Stockport Council is working alongside our communities to support where we can. The recently launched Stockport Local Fund: Community Support is awarding grants for community activities that are providing support to people affected by the coronavirus.

In 3 weeks, we have awarded over £30,000 to 35 different projects working across Stockport to tackle the crisis. We have funded projects that are setting up schemes for the homeless, providing care packages for older people, delivering food parcels and providing digital activities for children.

Councillor Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods said: “Stockport Council recognises the tremendous effort being made by communities across Stockport and the crucial work of the voluntary sector. Facing up to this crisis required a Stockport wide response and I am delighted we have been able to help with funding for so many different projects across Stockport who are providing this vital support.

“These are uncertain times for the voluntary sector yet these groups are still helping our most vulnerable to deal with the crisis. This is why we have also set up a funding alliance, working with Sector 3 and Stockport Homes, to help organisations find and apply for funding for community projects.

“Thank you to everyone working and volunteering in our communities. The outpouring of support to help people in Stockport during these most difficult of times has been magnificent!”
