STOCKPORT County boss Jim Gannon has praised his players and spoke of his pride after their battling FA Cup performance against Premier League West Ham.

The Hatters took the Hammers to the wire in the televised third round tie at Edgeley Park.

They were finally defeated by an 80th minute goal from Craig Dawson which took West Ham through after a hard-fought game in the rain.

Speaking after the game Gannon said: “The lads are naturally disappointed, but that’s a sign of how well that they competed.

“I think that feeling will dissipate over time and they will feel that they’ve given a good account of themselves, so it would be no cliche to say that I’m very proud of them.

“All I wanted was for them to perform as well as they could and compete with a Premier League side.”

Captain Liam Hogan said: I hope we made the town feel proud tonight.”
