The future is looking bright for a Stockport optician after he picked up a national award.

Adam Mason, who works at Specsavers in Stockport, has been recognised by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians.

He was awarded the prestigious Federation of Manufacturing Opticians’ Derek McLaren Memorial Award for the highest mark in his final qualifying exams and collected his prize at a ceremony held at Canterbury Cathedral on November 21.

He was celebrating again the following week when he attended a graduation ceremony at Bradford College, having completed his foundation degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing.

He said: “I was very surprised when I learned that I had scored the highest mark. It was quite overwhelming actually. The cathedral in Canterbury was a stunning venue for the ceremony.

“I have really enjoyed my degree. It has been hard work but I have had great tutors, made good friends and given me a great footing for my career.”

His tutor Dean Dunning said: “Throughout his three years at Bradford College, Adam demonstrated an exceptional understanding of the subject and always performed to a very high standard. This national award is fully deserved for his hard work.”
