As part of the Vernon's objective to be an employer of choice in 2019 and to further develop the Society's impact in its local communities as a proud mutual organisation, the Vernon Building Society recently awarded 2 paid annual volunteer days to all employees.

This opportunity enables the Vernon team to volunteer at local charities and community organisations of their choice, offering their time and skills to worthy causes.

In February, 9 Vernon employees visited Stockport Foodbank over 2 days in order to assist them with the processing of supplies for local people in crisis. One member of the volunteering team was Vernon CEO, Steve Fletcher who said:

"Volunteering for Stockport Foodbank was an incredibly rewarding experience. We were amazed and delighted with the sheer quantity of supplies we processed and packaged on the day and it's fair to say we all slept well that night! Volunteering gave us all an even greater appreciation for the fantastic work the Foodbank carries out in the Stockport community."

In one of these days the team carried, weighted, sorted, dated and repacked over 900kg of food and supplies containing well over 3000 items, which will provide over 1000 meals. All of which will go to those in need throughout the Stockport area.

In January, Stockport Foodbank also received a donation from the Vernon as a result of their "Reverse Advent" initiative in which their 6 local branches donated items on a weekly basis over the winter months. This resulted in 67kg of food and essential supplies being delivered at a time when donations are low when compared to the more charitable month of December.
