Lap of honour for sporting youngsters

PUPILS and staff at an infant school in Cheadle Hulme are celebrating after scooping 14 gongs at the Stockport Schools Sports Awards.

Cheadle Catholic Infant School took home five awards, while eight pupils who individual awards at the ceremony held at Stockport Plaza.

The awards come a year after the school introduced The Daily Mile, which sees staff and pupils from Nursery to Year 2 'Smile for a Mile' every day.

Awards won by the school include 'Commitment to High Quality PE' and Commitment to Participation in PE, Sport and Physical Activity'. while individual pupils aged from four to seven were named 'Sports Photographer of the Year', 'Young Reporter of the Year' and 'Young Ambassador of the Year'.

To make the evening even more special, the awards were presented by ex-Cheadle Catholic pupil and current England netballer Gabriella Marshall.

Acting head Pamela Gylnn said: "I am extremely proud of all our children and delighted they won so many awards. The children love their PE lessons and we are delighted so many of them have taken part in a wealth of competitions and events throughout the school year."

The school was also named runner-up in the 'Smile for a Mile' School of the Year/ And Pamela has high expectations for the year ahead after planning permissions was granted for a running path to be built around the school field during the summer holidays.
