PLANS for 224 new homes on the outskirts of Stockport are set to get the go-ahead from planners.

The Handforth development will sit on former greenbelt land that Cheshire East Council earmarked for housing last year.

Housebuilder Anwyl’s plans include a mix of homes, including more than 30 per cent affordable housing to buy or rent.

The proposed site will also feature equipped play areas for children and footpaths and cycleways.

Previous plans for the new homes were amended at the request of Cheshire East’s planning officers.

The site had been originally proposed to accommodate 250 homes, and planning officers had felt Anwyl’s original development did not go far enough to provide affordable housing for single people, first time buyers and the elderly.
